Let's start simple

What is fluorite?

Fluorite is calcium fluoride. It grows as cubes and octahedrons in a wide range of colours, often several bands in one piece. It gave its name to fluorescence: many fluorites glow under ultraviolet light. Because it is soft and splits cleanly, it is usually sold as tumbles, towers, octahedrons and polished pieces.

Its neat, geometric crystals made it a symbol of order, which is why students and organisers keep it close.

"Fluorite brings order to the clutter, on the desk and in the mind."

Where to keep fluorite as per vastu

These are the placements most often recommended in popular vastu practice:

  • North-east, the wisdom zone. For learning and clarity.
  • Study table. Facing north or east.
  • Work desk. For focus.
  • Children's study corner. A larger piece, out of reach of small children.
  • Away from sunny windows. To keep the colour.

💡 If you can choose only one place, choose the study table.

Fluorite myths, cleared up

Myth: "Fluorite is the fluoride in toothpaste."

Fluorite is a source of fluorine for industry, but the stone itself is not for eating, drinking or elixirs.

It is much softer and splits easily; handle it gently.

Myth: "All fluorite glows."

Many pieces fluoresce under UV light, but not all.

Myth: "It will do the studying for you."

It is a focus aid in tradition; the revision is still yours.
