Let's start simple

What is carnelian?

Carnelian is chalcedony, quartz made of tiny crystals, coloured orange-red by iron oxide. It is translucent, so it glows when light passes through it. Much carnelian is gently heated to deepen its colour, an ancient and accepted practice.

India has a remarkable history with this stone. Bead-makers in Khambhat (Cambay), Gujarat, have worked carnelian for over 4,000 years, and their beads have been found in ancient Mesopotamian tombs.

"Carnelian is the spark that gets you off the sofa and back to the work you love."
